not really sure but i think;

mungo really sounds like a name they could use in the naming of a flavour
and well jerry is the jerry half of Ben and Jerry.

btw- chunky monkey is my super favorite B&J flavour.
bannana ice cream, chocolate chunks, and walnuts (good for the prostate)

Nelly - country Grammer is the only music planned for today... but probably some DeeDee since i have to go onto the HD today biggrin.gif

actually i am not so sure anymore laugh.gif laugh.gif
but i will leave that up to B&J or Baskins & Robbins. cool.gif

interesting subject here
i didn't know the mungo jerry group, i mean their name, but a research gave me their most famous song, that of course i know. the first words are very nice but maybe not so politically correct

Mungo Jerry In The Summertime Lyrics
(Ray Dorsey)

In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

they sing
Have a drink, have a drive
too much: it's an invitation to facing death on roads!
in fact, i read that

In 1995, the reggae artist Shaggy covered the song, and scored a hit with it. Shaggy changed one line of the song to reflect modern-day values. In Mungo Jerry's version, the lyrics encouraged people to "have a drink, have a drive..." while Shaggy's more politically correct version says "I'm going to ride and drive ..." Ironically, the relevant part of the original recording was used for a time on TV public service advertisements warning viewers not to drink and drive. However, Shaggy retained the lines "If her Daddy's rich take her out for a meal, If her Daddy's poor just do what you feel," which are disturbing to many modern listeners.

that's my personal point here
right these days that very warning is aired here in italy, a psyco-terroristic campaign, when you hear this nice song, there is a party with men and women drinking and having fun, you are invited to sing and dance along, and a second after there are images of a horrible crash... what the fuck: they are going to make me hate that song, suckers mad.gif

a cultural note on the band's name

Their name was inspired by the poem "Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer", from T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

in fact the photo gershi posted shows an animal, this mungo never heard before, maybe similar to a possum

these info can be looked up at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mungo_Jerry
tks to ge and anl for keeping me studying. what i really need after some classes laugh.gif friends.gif

anyway, were I to choose, i would prefer mango icecream notworthy.gif

QUOTE
Mungo Jerry was formed in 1970 by singer/guitarist Ray Dorset (born March 21, 1946), who had a fascination with early rock & roll sounds, as well as skiffle and blues. The other original members were Mike Cole on upright bass; Paul King on guitar, kazoo, and jug; Joe Rush playing washboard; and Colin Earl at the keyboards. Dorset and Earl had first hooked up in the Good Earth, a group with a mixed rock & roll and blues sound, which cut some tracks for the mid-priced label Saga, none of which sold. Cole, King, and Rush came aboard and the lineup was complete. The name Mungo Jerry – from a T.S. Eliot poem – came next, with a contract from Pye Records.

so i guess you could say a fresh blast from the new and the past.

The Arrow And The Song
Poem lyrics of The Arrow And The Song by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For who has sight so keen and strong,
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.

nice one smile.gif friends.gif

you're right! it seems sort of nice poetry for children, unlike most of the tough eliot's poems

T.S. Eliot - Mungojerrie And Rumpelteazer

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer were a very notorious couple
of cats.
As knockabout clown, quick-change comedians, tight-rope
walkers and acrobats
They had extensive reputation. They made their home in
Victoria Grove--
That was merely their centre of operation, for they were
incurably given to rove.
They were very well know in Cornwall Gardens, in Launceston
Place and in Kensington Square--
They had really a little more reputation than a couple of
cats can very well bear.

If the area window was found ajar
And the basement looked like a field of war,
If a tile or two came loose on the roof,
Which presently ceased to be waterproof,
If the drawers were pulled out from the bedroom chests,
And you couldn't find one of your winter vests,
Or after supper one of the girls
Suddenly missed her Woolworth pearls:

Then the family would say: "It's that horrible cat!
It was Mungojerrie--or Rumpelteazer!"-- And most of the time
they left it at that.

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer had a very unusual gift of the
gab.
They were highly efficient cat-burglars as well, and
remarkably smart at smash-and-grab.
They made their home in Victoria Grove. They had no regular
occupation.
They were plausible fellows, and liked to engage a friendly
policeman in conversation.

When the family assembled for Sunday dinner,
With their minds made up that they wouldn't get thinner
On Argentine joint, potatoes and greens,
And the cook would appear from behind the scenes
And say in a voice that was broken with sorrow:
"I'm afraid you must wait and have dinner tomorrow!
For the joint has gone from the oven-like that!"
Then the family would say: "It's that horrible cat!
It was Mungojerrie--or Rumpelteazer!"-- And most of the time
they left it at that.

Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer had a wonderful way of working
together.
And some of the time you would say it was luck, and some of
the time you would say it was weather.
They would go through the house like a hurricane, and no sober
person could take his oath
Was it Mungojerrie--or Rumpelteazer? or could you have sworn
that it mightn't be both?

And when you heard a dining-room smash
Or up from the pantry there came a loud crash
Or down from the library came a loud ping
From a vase which was commonly said to be Ming--
Then the family would say: "Now which was which cat?
It was Mungojerrie! AND Rumpelteazer!"-- And there's nothing
at all to be done about that!

it is often i do not listen to music while i am outside with my plants. i like to take in as much of thier environment as possible so to get more 'into' thier mindset. makes for a better parent i think. but the plants indoors i normally tend to indoors will be more fitting my general mood at the time, but probably leans more to the less energy stuff... or if the radio is on it is the local jazz station notworthy.gif 91.1 fm.

finally i find the time to revive this thread pimp.gif really sorry, anl pal, that i didn´t contribute my musical journeys for so long unsure.gif

this thread is to good to die friends.gif 1place.gif

just listened to one tune that always lifts me up: gene kelly - singing in the rain jester.gif

http://youtube.com/watch?v=bkEvy-9yVyQ

"let the stormy clouds chase everyone from the place - come on dance in the rain with a smile on your face" smile.gif

second one i like because of it´s hippy style. wow, that was a time when radical ideas were on vogue. wish i could have been 20 or so at that time pimp.gif pimp.gif i got life from hair.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-1LRD3DtFAo

next up is one more uplifting tune from one of the greatest entertainers ever: sammy davis jr. - candyman cool.gif

http://youtube.com/watch?v=GMIot47foSw

"the candyman mixes it with love and makes the world taste good" wub.gif

next on the playlist is PERFECTLY produced music: earth, wind & fire - got to get you into my life. a great beatles song even made better. blowing horn section, cracking bass, hooking guitar and ass kicking vocals. and i love the big white grin of maurice white, the lead singer pimp.gif pimp.gif

http://youtube.com/watch?v=hBBN0T5PYXY

btw, does anyone know which weird movie that clip is from? crazy.gif and did you notice the bee gees in the audience? crazy.gif

last one for tonight is the best turntablist i ever saw. i was happy to see his performance at sonar festival in barcelona in 2004 cool.gif watch as he uses his turntables as instruments blink.gif
