I understand your point of view (and the Gninori's one about the big size pix same problem) but personally I can't stop myself uploading various pix to make the board funnier and prettier than an 80's fax

For me more images always means more fun.
But it could be a problem for some of us, yes.

i totally 100% agree 100% kdm totally.

it is also intensely annoying when trying to read a thread and it's all jumping about all over the place because different size pictures are appearing around the page as they load.

people ought to show some god damn self restraint with the amount and size of pictures in signatures, i mean it's especially annoying when someone, like, for instance TANGERINE*, (who in a moment of extatic rapture at finding the <img> tag has clearly created this modern art masterpiece in his signature) then posts a fucking lot of times all in the same thread - resulting in the combined length of post and signature causing the page to be practically long enough to wear out one's mouse wheel and/or patience.

i only post pictures once in a while, and only when they are 'piss your pants' funny, and even then i make sure it's not going to break any margins by a long shot or even so much as smell like having a large file size. it's just common courtesy. i hate having to play 'find the relevent text amongst the warholian collage'

but i'm not that pissed off as i sound here, it's no big deal, it'd just be slightly better if i didn't have to see the same picture bombardment a hundred times per thread, or see some other pictures posted randomly that don't even make me laugh one little bit and could have not been posted in the first place and i'd enjoy the whole experience more.

*no offence intended, i said 'for instance' which is like 'hypothetically' only a bit more bourgeois, but yeah, you were just already in this thread and happened to be dancing about wearing a hat with 'perfect example of this' written all on it. ain't no beef.

Okay, so I'm NOT insane... Like you said, it's a pain in the ass when the browser (especially on my BkBerry!) hops around like a maniac... That's all...

the avatars would have nothing to do witht he problems you guys are pointing out.

signatures are... but you can turn them off and not have to look at any of them... setting is in My Controls>Board Settings.

as to the warholistic pic pimping in many of the topics i will agree they do make pages load slower and arent always funny or appropriate... but they make if funner for some if only for the poster themselves. one thing many of us forget is that not everyone has high speed connections so what takes a split second to load on my computer might be dreadfully painfully slow.

i appreciate both your thoughts and will (personally) try to tame it down a bit. but not all the way gotta still have some fun.

No problemo dude. I understand your will and I could try to restrain myself on pix madness but It 'll be a pain in the ass for me so.
And on this english speaking forum where a lot of members aren't fluently speaking i think it's better to use images that are universally understandable and enjoyable. Just the way the comics born and spread in US newspapers in XIXth century with all the poor english speaking european migrants.
Let's hear other members opinions before restraining my pix-dope needs, pals. (^ ^) & agree with anllover : "gotta still have fun" ( I'must say too that I have a high speed connection and a wiiide screen MAC OK that's why I can appreciate Anllover animated weird signs.) ok, that could be a bit of a nuisance, some signatures are really elaborate and multi-loaded, but at least let's give a little more free leash to people who are often here, especially the ones that dogwatch the board, i mean the barking berking mods and anyway, we mods already had a tiny discussion among us on the right amount of photos to present with a text between us, we agreed in a friendly manner that the best solution to date is self-regulation. personally i don't find annoying many pics (some members can be creative in their) findings and postings, unless they tend to go off screen, dilating the page, and so making using buttons very troubling... that happens with personal pics too, uploaded on this board, so it's not only a problem of preposterous warholesque collaging, but the way one chooses the size of one's pics of course, i wouldn't tend to be too severe with people sharing with us their private moments
i hope we can reach the same sort of self-control on signatures and use of img tags, without more restrictive rules Edited May 10, 2007 by gninori

links are no fun and easily ignored, if you want people to see a picture, you oughta post it.

but i guess the basic idea here is - don't overdo it and moreover don't post too large an image.

personally i think around 400x400 is a good size, but then that's what i tell all the ladies.

i can agree with that although i have a wide screen and a 16 mb connection these large (and i mean broader than my screen) pics make surfing uncomfortably i have no problem scrolling up and down (mouse wheel ) but scrolling left or right is annoying

anyway, everytime someone will have problems with a certain feature or habit here. sometimes it´s the missing previews, sometimes the signatures, sometimes the filehosts, sometimes the gay stuff, and so on and so on.

don´t get me wrong, guys but just take this board the way it is. after all it´s the best porn board in the net concerning members, content, creativity, community, design, humour - you name it

hey i have to say that i like looking at the pics on the boards and i dont bother clicking on links that often.

i think that if you want us to see pictures then you post them.

i hope that you can come to a compromise guys

in the old board we factually agreed that it was quite useful to give links to the posted pics, because sometimes the pics don't load and so it's disheartening to read IPB IMAGE and not see the image. mods can bypass the problem by editing the post and reading the link, but it's not practical
so, images with their links posted below is the right way to me
but i guess prolaptotron says it could be done this way

I'll just add that I spend a lot of time here while doing my job on my Mac and as my daily job is to make images and cartoons i really can't communicate without placing pix beetween words, I hope you'll understand me, pals even if you don't appreciate my pixmaniac behaviour. I can't help it.

And don't forget our narcissic needs here hehehe. (^^)

this type of section ought to be exempt, i mean it's a section of the forum specifically for pictures, you go in there for that exact reason.

but it would be nice if the people in there wouldn't just upload their high definition digital camera pictures without resizing and have the page struggle to load an image of a pixelated prolapse bigger than the universe.

Troll, I agree about the huge cosmic rose planet SF effect we're heading in some thread but isn't interesting to see what members pants daily see ?
Like in the movie "Being John Malkovitch" we can feel here "Being Lycrafan's pants" or "Dans le slip de FreakyPumper" but with no smell.

Kinky, about a size rules on pix, ok to choose the lightest ones but when I'm imagegoogleing I first try to find an image that match my words , so if I'll had to DL and resize the pix on Photoshop and Upld it again it 'll take too much time, no fun.

I think mixing images with words is one of our XXIth century languages pals.

Does anyone else think these avatars & signatures are getting to be a little out of control? Sure, I appreciate the creativity that goes into them, but there're some that are maybe too elaborate. Okay, I don't have the greatest computer on the market, but it's not bad - and some of these signatures burn so much of my RAM that the pages almost freeze up! Maybe it's time for the content to be reined in a little...

Quick & dirty solution for firefox :

>tools > options > content - check " load images " & uncheck "for the originating website only"

Only images hosted on the board will be loaded .

Better solution :

install the firefox "adblock" extension

, right click on the offending avatar/ signature & click ok to block it forever.

For me the board is fine like it is...
Little jumping up and down in my browser window but I can stand it. If it is the price for a visual appetising board, well then we gotta pay it!
Adapting is better than getting restricted....just my 2 cents.
