Is there anything better? NO. Every type of media distribution center out there, in whatever form, sucks utter balls for convenience, time saving and information.
They either lack a full compendium of interaction: Blogs.
Or are completely cluttered locations, with no adequate URL management: stream sites.
Maybe even they become an absolute trawl to scan over, with so much information, here and there... 99% of it useless, and in no relative order whatsoever: forums.
This is an idea: how about MAKING IT AS SIMPLE TO USE AS A DESKTOP OR DOCK?
When will there be a website with an integrated dock interface? WHEN?
This will probably happen when cloud computing really kicks off, which is a piss poor time to start, to be honest. Cloud computing takes power out of user hardware, and even software, and sticks it with whoever or whatever runs those servers and data centers. It's corporate control like interactive television and old media: reinvention of sliced bread... dumb, useless... and preset, so there's no choice in preference.
How many users have skimmed over a forum, for hours and hours, searching for that special post, that special link... or used a search tool, for ages looking for a specific file.
There's no categorical directory, anywhere on this web of data.
There is definitely a black hole in usability.
Vast majority of every user's time, is made waiting, looking or spending time working on getting a file. Getting access... not many people that use this giant global network, actually dedicate most of their time to actual productivity... whether that be social or formal.
This Internet has made data sharing progressively worse, not better. Every single flit with half a nut, can ruin hours of uploads, with one click.
Or get a file buried over a mountain of other files, simply because there was no reasonable categorical organization available.
Or chuck a bunch of garbage into a location, for there to be a needle in a haystack to find, that's reasonable.
It's mind-numbing and mentally unnerving, that every user of this global data center, has to trawl through every result from a search, every heuristically associated location, to find that one file. And it was right there, right under that user's nose. A simply piece of data, a simple URL. A simple command script to download. Is that so hard? And that person may never find that file. And that file, may never get downloaded, before it's removed from that location.
Every single file is a grain of sand, pouring through an hourglass, slipping through fingers as they rub back and forth. This web isn't catching them, not one bit.
It's a weapon of waste.
This user, has spent many an hour learning and understanding how computers work. How data works over networks. How programs work. How script works. How to compile binary, or hex... or whatever type of code.
How to MAKE circuitry.
How to compile actual components.
What chemicals work best.
What combinations of chemicals work better.
What physical processes work better than old fashioned processes.
How to avoid malicious software.
How to avoid malicious hardware.
How to be malicious with hardware.
How to be malicious with software.
But by far, something that can't be learned, educated or fully understood, is input behavior.
Input behavior is sporadic, nonsensical and nonlinear. It follows and trickles mind-bending patterns, that yes, MAY BE predictable, but they'll usually trip up over every other algorithm that ISN'T human. Can it all be trained? No, because it has an ability to refuse. It even will refuse upon lethal force, in some exceptional cases. Even upon lethal force to something else far greater than itself... because it can be insane.
Input behavior, has by far, cost this user more time, work and energy than ANY 1024 bit encryption, simple object access protocol, security token, such as:
* X.509 certificates
* Kerberos tickets
* UserID/Password credentials
* SAML-Assertion
or even a custom defined token, transport layer security, end-to-end security, Non-Repudiation, Alternative transport bindings, reverse proxy, canonicalization and parsing reductions when merging of several XML-schemata like SOAP, SAML, XML ENC, XML SIG, etc.
List goes on. Input behavior is second to none, for difficulty. Period.
