Actually, I find the signatures are distracting to especially the 100th time I see the same thing. Also, I've found that aminated gifs do eat up CPU time as well. However, on your control panel under board options, there is a setting called "Do you wish to view members signatures when reading topics?" I'm turning that off my account and Minx, you probably should do the same. There are other options to turn off even more like "Do you wish to view images in posts, such as smilies and posted images?"
