If I tell someone who doesn't like eating broccoli that I like broccoli, they'd be less gross out than telling people who thinks missionary sex is kinky that I like gaping destroyed asshole.

True, but, in casual conversation you're unlikely to just be sitting around a cafe with a cup of coffee talking about butts, so the probability of fetish discussion is actually quite low.
