The only reason to have 52 different words for snow is an emotional empathy towards the word. That's why Inuits have that word 52 different times... Languages are all very similar in their means and eventuality. There is no context ever, to compromise yourself and speak outside the world language: English.

It is fucking pointless to learn parts of a language which already correspond to the structure of your own.

I don't think it's JUST "irrational embolism". The practical use is far more grounded.
Hungarians have the same with horse-colors. We used to have more than 300 words for the colors, color-spots and shapes of our horses in the past. But nowadays, the actively used colors are below 100, becouse of the lack of interest. It's because we had a great interest (and love) about the horses. Like inuits about snow.
