It took forever to download the files from the bad filehosts (rapidgator.net is just as bad as uploaded.net). file-upload.net is excluded, as it's fast and nice.

And with a normal internet connection it takes a long time to upload the files freed from the bad hosts.

A better work around would be a shared folder with upload access for all. Mediafire has this feature, I guess dropbox, google drive and mega also has this feature. With it anyone can download from the bad hosts and upload any missing file to the shared folder.

Ok, the idea was not perfect, but with a few improvements it would be practicable. For example a system to split the parts to different hosters and uploaders that everyone know what is in work and what is still open.

Basically I don't think the problem is the upload speed, because it's for most of the hosters the same, it's only dependent on the internet-connection of the uploader...

 

Can you explain more specific how the system should work with mediafire? I read something from 'register' and '50 GB free space'. Looks also not so easy and practicable for longer time.

Thank you for your efforts, paulstein. Apparently nobody else saw the point of the exercise. It's simple enough to bitch about download speed, but few here will do anything about it. Downloading RG alongside Uploaded is still twice as fast as doing either alone. It would take much less time if 24 people put a single part on 24 different hosts than just one or two people doing it.

I didn't give up; I had some real life stuff to do the past couple of days (plus some fun). It is still disheartening to see that this project lost its momentum, but I can't say I'm surprised. I'm glad that there are a few people interested in rehosting the files at least. I still got around to downloading everything, and now we have a couple mirrors to the original post.

For those contemplating using the multi-link approach who do not have premium accounts:

Paulstein's File-Upload.net allows multiple downloads.  I was able to download 6 files at once and finished the complete download in about half of an hour.  JeffB and LordEdmund should be thanked for their work and effort but the entire file can be downloaded through the File-Upload links in less time than one part through either Upload.net or Rapidgator.
