I don't know of any basic anatomical or physiological difference between anal sphincters of men and women, although muscles of pelvic floor (eg levator ani) are responsive to sex steroids in animals (increased weight & strength with testosterone), so the possibility that men's are stronger cannot be excluded. Bum in air posture assists gaping because weight of abdominal viscera creates a negative pressure in abdominal cavity and this is transmitted equally to inside of intestines. Thus, when anal sphincter is open, air will enter because pressure inside is less than pressure outside and walls of rectum which are normally in contact (ie no actual tunnel) can move apart to accommodate the incoming air (ie tunnel exists). Any increase in abdominal pressure, eg by bearing down, breathing out or coughing will increase the pressure on the outside walls of the intestines/rectum and collapse the tunnel. None of this explains the impressive gapes obtained in women who are lying on their backs with knees drawn up on top top of J-Y LeCastel et alii being ass fucked. When J-Y says "Kuckmal" or "Bim" and whips his dick out, there is often a lovely, air-filled tunnel, though it often collapses shortly after. What I want to know is how the gape response is controlled. The sphincters (there are two) must relax but I think there is more to it than that because that alone wouldn't explain the apparent force that holds the thing open- must be radial force on the sphincters, but no muscles correspond to that. Anyone got any clues here?
