My thanks to you guys. I will do that next time. I fixed it crudely by doing a system restore, but now I am prepared for the next time thanks to your help.

Normally, when I download video clips they open in a player I specified, but the other day a window came up "Choose an associated file" when I tried to download something and stupidly I chose Notebook. Now all my downloads open in Notebook - as code! Can anyone tell me how to change back? How to get that window back so I can undo what I did, or where to go so I can change back to the media player I had before? I've got many videos saved and they still open normally, but anything I download now goes to Notepad and is unusable.

Please could someone point me in the right direction for finding information on how to do these downloads. Sometimes it works and the video will play, and other times it just won't. And the icons the videos have can be different even for the same video links that I click on in, for example, Rapidshare ; sometimes the icon is my VLC player, the cone on its own, sometimes the cone is in a square, and sometimes I have a completely different icon (for example, the first line of one download worked - with the VLC cone - and the second one had a different icon and didn't work). I don't know what I'm doing, when I should unzip a file and when it isn't necessary, and above all I don't understand these icons and what to do to make them work. I'm wasting so much time downloading and only being able to view about 40% of what I download! Where can I go to find out all about this subject please?

Hello everyone. I'm blown away by what I've found here, but I am also frustrated because I can't find out how to view movies which are in the .rar file type - and so many of them are! Could someone please please tell me? Thanks and best wishes.

Could you or somebody be very nice and tell me how I can get the codec or whatever I need in order to be able to view this movie? my computer says Windows supports the file type but not the codec which was used to - something it! I'm getting this problem all the time and I'm lost. Thanks to all.
