pornography |pôrˈnägrəfē| |pɔrˌnɑgrəfi| |pɔːˌnɒgrəfi|
noun
printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate erotic rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings.

ORIGIN mid 19th cent.: from Greek pornographos ‘writing about prostitutes,’ from pornē ‘prostitute’ + graphein ‘write.’

This is a topic that has vexed me for a long time. Having been around this industry for some time, I feel it is time to reflect on what we
have become, and where we are going.

In the late '60's and early '70's, stag films on 16mm were all the rage. Porn was hard to find. Found in dark seedy sections of cities run awry with crime, most porn
was in print form, and your local so called adult stores that were nothing more than movie houses (where the AIDS epidemic began to take hold), that
sold toys and mags out the front door and hardcore drugs and sex out the back.

Then the '80's came and the advent of the VCR in the late '70's. Portability. Adult took off, as this now was a medium that could work it's way into the home.
Sales were brisk, and the early pioneers of porn (Vivid, Parliament, VCA, Hollywood, and many others flourished. The porn was steady and mostly soft-core,
except for the occasional rare fister that would show up from underground European companies. Sure you had your weird stuff. Bestiality, Fisting, Torture, S&M and the like.
But the biggies were definitely mainstream. Gonzo style shooting from a man by the name of John Stagliano started to appear in the late '80's and this would prove to be a
turning point in porn. Mainstream rental stores took note of the potential profits of porn, and started to carry adult titles, but only in the back room(s) where you had to
be eighteen to view them. The downfall and corruption of us all was steadily at work. The Dark Brothers. John Stagliano. Patrick Collins. Max Steiner. Chuck Zane.
From Europe, Dino Merlitz (DBM, ONID Studios, etc.), and many underground companies began to grow wings and soar. Porn was beginning to take on a harder edge.

Now we come into the '90's. Accessibility. Size. DVD's and VHS are all the rage. DVD makes it easier to see the porn we want, without running the motors into oblivion in
our VCR's by keeping the fast forward on, looking for that one in a million quality scene. Larger TV's put the pussies, cocks, and asses right in our virtual faces. Again porn
continues to move into a more extreme realm. Choke fucking, slapping, and rough sex are now the order with gonzo style being at the forefront of all adult companies.
No longer considered underground, porn is now out in the open. It is in mainstream advertising. MTV, VH-1,and major networks take on a more sex based approach. In the late '90's
the World Wide Web begins to take hold and establish itself as an alternative for porn. Dial up won't allow for movies, but there are plenty of nasty pictures available.
Any fetish you want is there for the taking, for a small fee of course. The industry in the 90's is now well on it's way of catapulting over 20 billion in sales and growing rapidly.

The millennium change ushers in a new era. The Internet begins to stake it's claim as the almighty media source for the world. Bringing everyone closer and closer together. If you've got dial-up, forget it. T-1's, Cable High-speed, and DSL. If you've got it your in. Major Corporations swallowing small ISP's to stake their claim as the controllers and policemen of this out of control medium. What we watch. How we watch. All being monitored closely. Sexual Predators of all kinds now have a home in their home to work their evil deeds, and they run rampant across the web virtually undetected, or so they think. Snuff movies, violent torture at the behest of our so called governments and the selling of all our souls is the rage across the net. Mainstream companies try to keep up by offering more perverse sex and harder edged themes. Any thing you want baby, it's yours, in minutes, for another higher price. Web cams, forums like this one and PTP file sharing begin to take the profits out of the porn companies. They scramble and decide to start to sell their content to websites that can stream their movies to the world. Convenience. iPod's and iPorn to go with them. What have we done for the sake of a few jollies and instant gratification? Is it really freedom of expression, or is it something else.

Friends, with my sincerest heartfelt thanks, this will most likely be my last post on this board. I have conversed privately with many of you, and I will remember you all fondly. I don't like what I have become. I have spent the first half of my life within the confines of the porn industry. I ran a successful business within it, sold my soul for the sake of a few bucks, capitalizing on everyone else's weakness.
In the coming days, I fear we all will be judged by our convictions and more importantly, our very souls will be put on the line. I wish you all well. I wish you peace. And I wish you safety.
Make your lives extraordinary...

My dear marlinD, your words on porn are great but I should be really sad if your vanish from here. I'll really miss you, mate. sad.gif

But I can understand you perfectly. friends.gif

Your brief history of porn is brillant,IPB Image huge thanks for it. notworthy.gif

Since my first swedish 16mm movies and danish porn mags in the late 60' and early 70' ,things have changed a lot, sometimes in a good way (less crime biz here than in the 70' IMO) and sometimes not.
For my part, my porn needs became to be burden to me these days, but it's due to my own longtime knowledge worhship on myself I suppose. I began to re-initalize the private hard disk in the core of my heart, knowing what really happen in my very first years and how my exploitation system was written. Now I feel I can change the OS now to get a better plentiful life.
I'm not sure to be at the end of my porn path (i still have some things to do here) but it could happen soon, dunno. huh.gif

Anyway I send you my very best whishes to you , I hope and I'm sure that you'll have a good life and I hope you'll have a good death too muhahaha. wink.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif

Please hope the same for me, my friend. notworthy.gif friends.gif love.gif

Faithfully yours, with respect. (^ ^) Tangerine crazy.gif

wow, what an astonishing history of porn notworthy.gif notworthy.gif although my porn career started at the beginning of the 80s (and so i missed the first period you mentioned) i feel like you have written down my very own experiences blink.gif

to summarize my view on the subject: yes, i think i feel the same. but let me add some of my personal experiences and feelings.

when i started with porn it was something mysterious, full of temptations and so many new things to discover blink.gif i was like 15 and just getting in the only local porn shop was an adventure. this shop was small, not one of these big porn malls you see today. it was dark, not full of neon signs. it had a little backroom with like 5 rows of old cinema chairs and two projectors for the 16mm-films. mainly they showed all the color climax stuff. and they just began to sell video tapes.

then another porn shop opened it´s doors. they had a little room in the basement (i already told the story in the old board). in the room you could find some chairs and a tv-set. and if you were the only one who was in this "cinema" you could choose out of all video tapes they had drool.gif it was then when i first discovered american porn. at that time i "met" all the big classic starts like seka, ron jeremy, traci lords, the very young tom byron, peter north, etc. etc. pimp.gif

i began to buy my first porn mags, the color climax mags being the first ones. at home i had to hide them on top of my wardrobe crazy.gif

then i finished school and went to the army. this period saw me slow down a little bit on porn, but just because my military duties didn´t leave enough time. after the army i began to study and this was a turning point. i had my first own flat (very very small) in a town 300km away from my parents, i had my own tv set and after a short time my own vcr.

in my 8 years in the university i think i was the best customer for all video rental shops all over the city. just last week i looked at http://www.rarehardcore.com . and i realized that out of 1.600 old movies they sell there i know at least 70% crazy.gif there was NO day i didn´t watch a new movie. first there were the classic american movies distributed via the beate uhse label and the classic euro porn mainly distributed via ribu film (in this times mainly french movies). then the first semi amateur movies entered my local porn rental shops. this was, apart from very few exceptions, my first experience with not overdubbed "actors". in germany foreign movies we´re always dubbed with german speakers yucky.gif

anyway, this was also a period in which i began to get kind of addicted to porn. looking back from today, i was so hooked on porn that i almost forgot that there were so many nice real girls out there crazy.gif

then, about the time i finished my studies at 1992 and began to work, internet began to rise. i found the first sites like http://bjsextremesex.com, e´s forum, etc. but at that time it was mainly pics (well, at e´s you could also find some movies, which were really hard to get though). then all the sites with preview clips started and after that all the yahoo clubs, groups, msn groups, etc. my bandwidth began to increase as did my download amount.

and then sites like rapidshare started that really changed everything. this was also the time i discovered rbb and first became a member and the mod. in the first rbb i moderated i downloaded so much with my rs premium account that i ended up with 100gb of stuff i hadn´t watched. i just downloaded EVERYTHING.

then i slowed down with my mod job, the forum crashed (not related to me laugh.gif ) and i had the time to review my download habits. i began to look through all the stuff i had downloaded and found out that at least 50% were just boring. and i realized that this virtual life had consumed way too much time. at that time i already was (and still i am) happily married with two kids. the birth of our third child then changed a lot.

still i am mod here, still i visit other sites, still i download stuff, still i watch porn. but i´m very selective now. i know that i have just a little time, just the time i allow myself to surf for porn. and i try to spent this time wisely.

resumee: i think i have gone through all stages a porn consumer can go through. i don´t blame myself for anything. if i had the opportunity to re-live my life i would have done different in a few moments but hey, you only have one life without the chance to go back, there is no time machine. and after all i now live a very very happy life and i´m more than happy with me, my wife, my kids, my family wub.gif my wife now knows all about my porn habits, which is very good. she´s just not so into extreme porn but she tolerates what i do.

but to get back to you, m.d.: i also realized that porn gets more and more extreme and hardcore. but the more extreme it gets the more boring i find it. there are some exceptions but most of the stuff from the big companies is dispensable. i still like to see a nasty movie but i choose wisely.

well, i think you can just call me grown-up after 20 years of porn adolescence laugh.gif laugh.gif

Great reply, Gershi ! notworthy.gif The most important thing in this thread IMO (beside friendly MD good-bye salute snif sad.gif ) is " what archaic psy patterns lurks behind our personnal porn needs addiction" muhahahha ! jester.gif love.gif Still a lot of work to do, RSBB broz and sis ! wink.gif (^ ^) crazy.gif Edited by Tangerine

I found Gershi's account of his history with porn pretty much identical to my own, including the way our wives regard it. Mine doesn't watch porn much, though she has no deep seated objection to it. She'd be offended by some of the rough stuff that has infiltrated commercial porn, but so am I.
I'm finding I'm less interested in large scale commercial porn as it seeks to titillate ever more extreme appetites. Amateur (or amateurish) productions are often more fun.
