Well i don't think of myself as a big movie-related-knowing-all-seen-all-have-best-taste-choose-only-epical-movies . I saw the trilogy ( 1st one ) when i was a kid , and probably i still watch and enjoy the series because i see these movies with the eyes i had when i was a child . You cannot say it's not enjoyable
I do agree that George Lucas made a big mistake on 2nd trilogy by doing all the directing and other things, instead of doing like in the 1st trilogy , mainly writing . Still , u can watch THX1138 and see that he's not a nobody

Mxdil is right about the Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress I already saw and big up for his movie knowledge and taste (and I don't talk about his gr8 sign clips muhaha) but so what ? I guess Kurosawa was inspired by ancient legendary stories too.
No problem to be inspired by former great master to make another good fiction IMO. Many artists do that a lot since the beginning of humanity, re-creating today stories with the same archaic patterns. (^ ^)

how true. according to some theorists of literature (bad bad word: scholars of narratology ) there are only 6, 7 basic plots and all is variation on the main themes
